The HoloBike is a holographic indoor exercise bike that simulates off-road cycling in realistic 3D, aiming to take indoor cycling technology to the next level.
Saga Holographic, a California-based team of engineers and designers, has been developing the bike for three years after they came up with the idea while cycling through the Andes Mountains in Colombia.
Founder Samuel Matson says their goal is to make indoor exercise bike as exciting as cycling outdoors in scenic landscapes: "I can get lost in the mesmerizing rhythm of moving through space for three hours when I'm cycling outdoors.
"But even 10 minutes on a stationary bike can feel monotonous. On our bike, the feeling of time flowing is mesmerizing. Using this sense of flow, we can create a highly meditative experience that improves focus and endurance." ”
The team drew on expertise from around the world, including hologram technology from Layer Design in the UK and a Silicon Valley research lab, to create an immersive cycling experience without the need for bulky headphones or glasses,
The panoramic light field display creates an immersive feeling, and the infrared depth sensor dynamically responds to the user's line of sight, providing a lifelike sense of space. Electromagnetic resistance dynamically adapts to the virtual world, allowing realistic climbing and gear changes.
Currently, the team is building a library of virtual cycling routes, from the Alps to the Outback, which have been recreated in three dimensions from digital scans of real-life routes.
After developing a prototype, the team launched a Kickstarter campaign last week to take it to the next level. In one day, it raised $31,570 from 18 backers, surpassing its $25,000 goal.
Each exercise bike starts at $2,599, and the system will come with three to four of about 20 The HoloBike is designed for riders with a height range of 1.5m to 1.93m and can be installed on a 66×150cm footprint.
